The aim of the study was the evaluation of a photobiomodulation device based on the use of blue light (EmoLED) in the treatment of acute lesions at risk of becoming chronic.

15 patients with acute wounds (trauma or surgical dehiscence) were enrolled, all patients at risk of becoming chronic due to underlying pathologies. Analysis has been performed on a single parameter: the reduction of the area. Patients underwent a 4-week run-in period with advanced dressings. In a second 4-week period, they underwent a 120 second weekly blue light treatment in addition to advanced dressing. Finally, they were observed for a further 4 weeks.

At the end of the 12-week period we obtained resolution of all treated lesions. At the end of the 4 weeks of treatment we obtained the resolution of 7 lesions (46.7%), at 6 weeks 13 healings were obtained (86.7%). The average reduction in the area was 10.6% at the end of the run inn period (T-28-T0) and 71% at the end of the 4 weeks of treatment (T0-T28).

According to the Authors, the device was found to be effective in preventing chronicity and accelerating repair. Further study will be needed to confirm this observational analysis.
