Blue Light therapy for tissue replacement
In the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) document “New Technologies for Tissue Replacement”, Blue Light Photobiomodulation is mentioned as one of the emerging and promising therapies for supporting tissue replacement in post-surgical defects and/or loss of substance. Blue Light has showed a positive effect in terms of decreased inflammation and tissue regeneration, in different clinical settings varying from venous leg ulcers (VLU) and pressure ulcers to inflammatory lesions and burns. According to the Authors the anti-inflammatory effects, the increase in collagen synthesis and deposition, the neo-angiogenesis and the modulation of fibroblasts’ activity are the changes promoted by Blue Light that are more directly involved in the repair of tissue defects.
