Patients treated with Blue Light at Kuala Lumpur Hospital

A case series published on Wounds Asia

08 November 2023

On Wound Asia has been published the article Blue Light Empirical Shine Study (BLESS) trial: a pilot case series; first author: Professor Dr Harikrishna KR Nair, Head of the Wound Care Unit, Department of Internal Medicine, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and President Elect of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies. The article report of nine patients with lower limbs non-healing wounds of different aetiologies (diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers and traumatic wounds) that were treated with Blue Light Photobiomodulation therapy at the Specialist Clinic Ambulatory Care Centre, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Malaysia (SCACC HKL). Non-healing wound is defined as a wound that has not healed by 40–50% after four weeks of good standard of care. Despite having different underlying causes, all nine patients responded positively to Blue Light therapy. According to the Authors, this suggests that all wounds may share a common pathophysiological pathway, which results in similar responses to Blue Light and ultimately leads to the same outcome— complete wound healing.
